Factory bump stops, usually made of rubber or urethane, are only there to stop metal-to-metal contact. They don’t do much to control the energy of the impact. That’s where hydraulic bump stops step in.

Why upgrade to hydraulic bump stops?

Hydraulic bump stops (sometimes called air bumps) are essentially mini-shocks designed to control the last part of your suspension travel. Instead of a hard, jarring stop, they use pressurised nitrogen and oil to progressively slow down compression. The faster and harder you hit, the more resistance they provide.

Superior Engineering’s hydraulic bump stop kits are built specifically for tough Aussie 4WDing. Our kits for Nissan Patrols (Patent – 201516906) are available for both front and rear setups.

• Front kits: A partial bolt-in design with minimal welding needed. This gives you clearance for a wide variety of coils and suspension combinations while letting you fine-tune bump stop position.
• Rear kits: Almost entirely bolt-in, with optional weld-on striker pads for extreme use. The kit integrates neatly inside the springs, and the adjuster housing doubles as a coil location cone for long-travel shocks.

Both front and rear bump stops feature adjustable threaded bodies, so you can dial in the exact contact point to suit lift height, spring rate, or load. They’re also fully rebuildable and tuneable, with internal shim stacks and nitrogen pressure adjustments to suit your driving style.

The rear kits are designed to work in conjunction with Superior’s rear tower braces for maximum strength. On Patrol utes, a full-width brace is incorporated to reinforce coil towers and keep everything rock-solid, even under extreme loads.
