Coil Springs
Original Equipped Coil Springs are prone to sagging (especially the rear) and therefore cannot satisfactorily carry increased loads.
Dobinsons Spring & Suspension manufacture after market Coil Springs to restore the ride height with our improved design coils.
In most cases, the coil is 10% - 30% stronger than the original OEM Spring. This gives better load carrying capacity for heavy Loads and enhances road handling while also improving towing capacities.
Specific features of Dobinsons Coil Springs include:
State of the Art Heat Treatment
Heat treatment is unseen and is the most important process in the coil spring manufacturing process. Hardening and tempering is completed by a very accurate electronically controlled furnace to eliminate breakage.
Formed On Precision Mandrels
Each coil is precisely placed by a programmable logic computer to achieve perfect pitch. This is very important in variable and progressive rate springs.
Shot Peened
Coils are shot peened to give longer life.
Precise End Configurations
Engineered coil ends are designed to fit the vehicle correctly.
Design Technology
Dobinsons Spring & Suspension computers have a design that allows the spring to maximise what is expected of the spring.
Powder Coat Finish
The powder coat finish is baked on to give a lasting protective coat to help eliminate rust.
Fully Scrapped & Load Tested
All coils are scragged 100% to eliminate subsequent spring sag and load tested to ensure that they meet and maintain the required specifications.

Full Length Eye Support Wrappers
Provides additional strength and safety for spring eyes and where possible, full military style wrap leaves are used.
Matched Spring Rate
Engineered and tested spring rates match the vehicle weight and shock absorber valve forces for a complete suspension system.

Provides up to 50mm of lift to the vehicle and also increases the vehicles load carrying capacity.

Greatly increased spring life through shotpeening and scragging of springs to prevent sagg.
Heat Treatment

Drawn, Tapered & Thinned Leaf Ends
Allows even load and stress distribution over the entire spring pack.
Castor Wedge
Assist in prevention of driveline vibration and excessive wear (selected models only).
NYLOC Clip Nuts
Reduces risk of bolts loosening and tyre damage.
Clip Liners
Reduces leaf-on-clip wear and squeaking.
Anti-Friction Liners
Reduces friction at each leaf end where the load is greatest and provides a smoother ride.
Shock Absorbers and Struts
Dobinsons 4x4 shock absorbers from Superior Engineering are a Twin Tube Nitrogen Gas charged shock absorber made from the world’s highest quality external and internal parts. Dobinsons shock absorbers utilize an 18mm chrome piston rod and 35mm bore for most vehicles, and a 32mm bore where space requirements do not allow this.
Where possible Dobinsons design and test each part number to provide a longer shock for more wheel travel, firmer valving for a more controlled ride and increased oil capacity for cooler operation in harsh conditions than the original vehicle shock absorbers.
Therefore Dobinsons recommends that when a suspension lift has been fitted to the vehicle, or the vehicle is carrying extra weight that Dobinsons 4x4 shock absorbers are fitted in conjunction with springs, and in some cases it is a necessity to ensure sufficient downward wheel travel (outlined in notes on these particular vehicles).
In some cases a softer option is also available and this is recommended for vehicles with light or no loads.
Steering Dampers
Dobinsons 4x4 steering dampers from Superior Engineering have been designed with a larger capacity and 50/50 valving to provide smooth controlled steering in both directions. Dobinson steering dampers are all heavy duty with a 30mm and are fitted with high temperature oil and a multi staged valve. They reduce fade, shimmy and wear on tyres and other front end parts, and give a smoother operation in 4x4 conditions.
Torsion Bars
Dobinsons torsion bars from Superior Engineering provide an increased rate and firmer ride over the original torsion bars and are recommended when the vehicle is fitted with additional accessories of 70kgs or more.
All Dobinsons Torsion bars are a heavier duty rate. Approximately 25% greater than standard.
The thicker bar diameter gives a dynamic increase in the spring rate eliminating hard bottoming when off road and gives better handling on the street.
They can be installed with a moderate pre load so 4wd on road keeps a standard height look, whilst providing 'bottoming' Performance in off road conditions.
These Torsion bars are easy to install and have a performance that has been proven time and time again.
They are especially beneficial when oversize tyres are installed.

U-Bolts
Dobinsons 4x4 U-bolts from Superior Engineering are made from high quality, 10.9 grade high tensile steel and it is recommended that when replacing leaf springs that new u-bolts are fitted. Fitting Dobinsons U-bolts is a necessity on most heavy duty leaf spring packs due to the length increase required for thicker spring packs.
Shackles and Pins
Dobinsons 4x4 greasable shackles and pins from Superior Engineering have been designed to work with both the original leaf spring bushes and Dobinsons polyurethane bushes (unless stated otherwise), however greasable shackles should not be greased when being used with rubber bushes. For ease of polyurethane bush maintenance and long bush life it is recommended that greasable shackles be fitted when fitting polyurethane bushes.
Polyurethane Bushes
Dobinsons polyurethane leaf spring bushes from Superior Engineering have been designed to work in conjunction with the original leaf springs as well as Dobinsons 4×4 leaf springs (unless stated otherwise). For ease of fitment it is recommended Dobinsons polyurethane bushes are fitted when installing Dobinsons 4×4 leaf springs. For ease of bush maintenance it is also recommended that greasable shackles also be fitted in conjunction with polyurethane bushes.
