OEM V.S. Superior Engineering

Let’s Help You Choosing the Right Lower Control Arm For Your 4WD

Developed by Aussies for Aussies, Superior Engineering lower control arms swap out flimsy factory parts for components you can actually rely on when the road, or lack of it, gets serious.

Let’s cover why upgrading your lower control arms to Superior Engineering beats OEM, what options we make, and how to pick the right arm for your rig.

IMAGELINK

Why OEM arms often let you down

OEM lower control arms are designed to hit budget targets, not rocky tracks. Typical factory arms are made from mild steel tubing about 32mm outer diameter and only 2.5–4mm wall thickness. That’s fine for commuting, not for hitting corrugations, rock gardens or heavy loads. A single knock from a rock or kerb can chip the cheap powder coat, and once water gets in, corrosion starts to chew away strength and your arm goes from quietly competent to structurally compromised, and gross to look at.

We designed our arms to stop that whole downward spiral.

Made in Australia

We manufacture in Australia with materials and finishes that suit aussie conditions. That means no corner-cutting, just suspension parts that last. If you live for long weekends, towing, heavy loads or nail-biting tracks, welcome to the Superior Engineering lifestyle.

The line-up: Heavy Duty, Strong Back and Billet Series

IMAGELINK

Heavy Duty Lower Control Arms

If you want a direct, reliable step up from OEM, our Heavy Duty arms are the everyday workhorse. Manufactured from a solid 40mm 1045 high-tensile bar, we cover them with a warranty guaranteed against bending and breaking. Finished in a durable SA5 zinc coating, the arms take an electrolyte bath and with the application of an electric current, zinc ions are uniformly deposited onto the material, forming a sacrificial layer that shields the underlying metal from corrosion and rust, protecting the base metal even if the plated surface is damaged.

They shrug off knocks and keep corrosion at bay, so they look great and keep performing after years of use. Adjustable options are available for major models so you can correct geometry and relocate the differential back if your build needs it, which also include our patented ITS Seal Technology (patent 2015101600) more on that later.

Strong Back Heavy Duty Lower Control Arms

For 4wd owners who treat “too far” as a friendly challenge, Strong Back is our answer. It keeps every benefit of the Heavy Duty arm and welds a 25mm flat bar to the top for insane stiffness and crush resistance. This is for the community who make tracks rather than follow them, big lifts, hard hits and heavy load cycles are what the Strong Back Lower Control Arm was made for. Adjustable versions of the Strong Back design also include our patented ITS Seal Technology (patent 2015101600) more on that later.

Billet Series Lower Control Arms

Want the best quality but need to trim weight? Our Billet Series arms are CNC machined from solid 7075-T6 billet aluminium. You get high strength and significant weight savings, ideal for performance-orientated builds, lighter-sprung setups and anyone who wants both form and function. They’re guaranteed to reduce unsprung mass without compromising reliability.

ITS Seal Technology

All our adjustable arms include Superior Engineering’s patented ITS Seal Technology (patent 2015101600). What that means is we machine a seal groove and use a hydraulic-style seal between the 1 1/8 UNF adjuster thread, twin lock nuts and the link body. The result is a pressure-tight, reliable seal that keeps grit out and adjustment smooth, no seized hardware, no fiddly fixes mid-trip.

Genuine OEM Bushes

We fit genuine OEM rubber bushes across the Lower Control Arm range, keeping vibration, noise and harshness under control. That means you get the durability and performance of an aftermarket arm with the ride quality and reliability you expect from a factory setup.

Street legality and fitment

Our fixed-length control arms are street legal across Australia and its territories, so they make straightforward OEM replacements. Stronger than stock, legal and designed for direct fitment, so you won’t have surprises at registration or from the boys and girls in blue.

Choosing The Right Arm For Your 4WD

Choosing the correct lower control arm comes down to how you use your vehicle.

  • If your 4WD is a daily driver that sees weekend tracks, touring and occasional towing, a Heavy Duty Lower Control Arm provides a massive strength upgrade over OEM without being excessive.
  • If your vehicle runs big tyres, significant lift height and regularly tackles aggressive terrain, the STRONGBACK option delivers maximum structural reinforcement and impact resistance. It is developed for extreme use.
  • If your focus is performance, handling precision or reducing unsprung weight, the Billet Series offers the best strength-to-weight ratio in the range.
  • If you have lifted your vehicle, changed tyre size or are experiencing driveline vibration, consider an adjustable arm. Being able to correctly set differential position ensures perfect geometry, reduces driveline stress and improves long-term reliability. ITS Seal Technology ensures those adjustments remain serviceable for the life of the vehicle.
  • Upgrading lower control arms is one of the most effective ways to increase suspension durability, steering precision and long-term reliability.
  • Replace thin-walled OEM tubing with Aussie designed components and you will notice the difference immediately. Stronger steering feel. Reduced flex under load. Improved confidence in harsh terrain. Fewer repair bills down the track.
  • Whether you need a dependable workhorse, a maximum-strength Strong Back, or a lightweight Billet Series arm, there is a Superior Engineering solution designed to match how you actually use your 4WD.
  • If you are unsure which option suits your build, contact our technical team with your vehicle year, lift height and tyre size and we will help you select the correct lower control arm for your setup.
