Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny Build

The Suzuki Jimny has built a cult following for good reason; it is compact, light on its feet, and genuinely capable straight off of the showroom floor. When our R&D team first got hold of the new model, the plan was simple, explore every possibility for refinement and see how far we could push the new platform. What we found was a little nimble 4WD that already punches well above its weight, making it one of the best new vehicles on the market for any new or experienced 4WDer.

What makes the Suzuki Jimny such an exciting platform is how much potential it has before you even start modifying it. The lightweight body, short wheelbase and compact footprint already make it incredibly effective on difficult terrain. Add the right suspension, protection and geometry correction, and you end up with a small 4WD that feels far more capable than its size suggests. It can crawl, flex, soak up rough tracks and keep moving through tight country where larger vehicles have to think twice.

TAKING A LOOK AT THE NEW JIMNY

From the factory, the new Jimny is a cult classic and offroad weapon. It is narrow enough to squeeze through tighter tracks, light enough to keep moving where bigger vehicles start to bog down, and short enough in wheelbase to make it a blast on sand and dirt terrain. It is the kind of 4WD that puts a grin on your face before the track even starts to get difficult. We wanted to see what it could really do, so we took it wheeling, tested its limits, and looked at the areas where careful upgrades could unlock even more performance, strength and confidence.

Rather than simply building a showpiece, our focus was on creating a well rounded off-road package. We looked at steering control, suspension travel, underbody protection, geometry correction, brake line clearance, driveline clearance and the practical realities of using a Jimny hard off road. The result is a well thought out build that keeps the Jimny’s fun personality intact while making it tougher, more stable and better suited to real Australian conditions.

LET'S GET STARTED!

Starting off strong, we fitted the Jimny with brand new 3-way adjustable 2.0 remote reservoir shock absorbers at all four corners, giving us the tuning range needed to match different terrain and driving styles. This was also accompanied by Australian Made 3" Coil Springs made by our mates at King Springs to our specifications.

To support the suspension lift we developed radius arms suitable for the Suzuki Jimny 2018 on 2-3 inch lift with added radius arm mount guards, adjustable panhard rods front and rear, and braided extended brake lines to maintain safe movement and proper function through the suspension cycle. Together, these parts help the vehicle stay composed, controlled and capable when the track gets rough.
