Team Superior Engineering placed 3rd overall in Pro class in the Minespec LCMP325 Aust4 series Round 1.

The day started with a 3rd place in the prologue with a safe run against the fastest cars of Peter Antunac's new IFS/IRS Ultra4 and Ben Napiers Penhall Rig.

Our Ultra4 ran very well throughout the day, considering we have a problem with the tune on the engine throwing the timing out, the water was also causing a miss from getting into the coils but it was not enough to make us worry about pulling into the pits.

We drove the engine around 2500-4500 RPM well below the power limits of the engine to make sure we did not push the vehicle too hard over the 4 hour race.

The tracks were a little wet but that was way better than dusty. The rock tracks were well layed out, not hard to break drivelines but enough to slow us up a bit. The first time we drove the log I gave it a little too much right foot and stood it fairly high in the air only quickly learning the right path to take.

The second rock creek was getting a bit deeper with each pass and we made a big mistake to attempt it in high range. Around half way along we got the vehicle bound up pretty bad and could not get the 4 x 40" tyres moving, the atlas was bound up and we couldn't get it to low range. Aaron got out to winch but I eventually selected low range, spooled the high mount back in and we got moving again.

Around lap 4 we hit a gully around 120 klm/h and shocked the hydraulic steering resulting in a sheered power steering pump shaft. After looking over the vehicle and deciding we could not fix it there we radioed the pits and organised a Power steer unit. We limped the vehicle back approx. 3 klm to a closer location for the pit crew to get us a pump. We lost around an hour changing out the pump because a lot of stuff needs to be removed to get to the pump and we did not have the tools to easily push on the belt again, we quickly grabbed a bite to eat and we were off again.

Since the new pump was a standard unit it could not pump the pressure or flow to keep up with the Hydro ram so we drove the vehicle slowly to get a few more laps in the remaining time as we had now heard from pits Peter Antunac was out due to a broken rear suspension bolt.

Second last time we entered the second creek run where we again got stuck and had to winch costing us again about 10 minutes.

Overall the pit crew and car were excellent.

Once the race was finished we swapped out the parts in the PS pump so we could properly steer the Ultra4 and the pit crew sealed up the coil packs getting some of our HP back so we had a play in the shootout at the end of the day.

Great event and great people to compete against.
